The spiritual service includes the imposition of ashes on the forehead, which indicates the beginning of a 40-day period of fasting, abstinence, and repentance. This practice from the Catholic tradition reminds faithful to draw closer to God and reflect on their individual spiritual journey.

As ashes are imposed on the faithful’s foreheads, Catholics are invited to embrace humility, prayer, and acts of compassion, setting the tone for a transformative 40-day journey toward Easter.
