The Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) community welcomed Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) Commissioner and TAU Board of Regents (BOR) Chair Dr. Desiderio R. Apag III during a flag-raising ceremony at the Gilberto O. Teodoro Multipurpose Center on 19 May. The event marked the Commissionerโ€™s first official visit to the University after being sworn to office early this year.

A highlight of the program was the unveiling of TAUโ€™s newly approved strategic framework, jointly led by Commissioner Apag, TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, and the Universityโ€™s three vice presidents. Inaugurated during the 9th University Charter celebration, the ten-year roadmap aims to optimize academic advancement, research innovation, and community engagement.

Dr. Salunson emphasized the significance of the Commissionerโ€™s presence, describing it as a strong gesture of support and collaboration between CHEd and TAU. He also expressed gratitude on behalf of the TAU administration and stakeholders.

In his message, Dr. Apag reaffirmed CHEdโ€™s support for TAUโ€™s long-term vision and mission, stressing the importance of aligning institutional strategies with global and national higher education standards.ย  Commissioner Apag also urged students to hone their skills for public service and recognized faculty and staff for their essential contributions to TAUโ€™s progress. He further lauded the Universityโ€™s legacy in agro-industries and rural development and called for solidarity in achieving TAUโ€™s strategic objectives.

Following the ceremony, Commissioner Apag toured the TAU campus alongside Dr. Salunson and other officials. The visit included key facilities such as the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Diagnostic Teaching Hospital, College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) Vegetable Garden, Agro-Biosystems Research and Development Laboratory Building, Rootcrops Research and Training Center, IT Center, E-Bamboo Facility, SMART Agriculture Center, and the Bambusetum, all reflecting TAUโ€™s long-term commitment to pursuing innovation, sustainability, and grassroots development.
