As an active catalyst for civic work and community development, the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) through the collaborative efforts of Student Placement Office (SPO), Office of the Student Services and Development (OSSD) - Student Inclusion Unit, and National Service Training Program (NSTP), spearheaded its First-Year Gender-Responsive Volunteerism Awareness Day themed โEmpowering Changeโ held at the TAU Amphitheatre, 9 May.
The program gathered 300 students including freshmen enrolled in Civic Welfare and Training Service (CWTS), Literacy Training Service (LTS), and Reserve Officersโ Training Corps (ROTC) subjects under the NSTP to engage them in informative session seeking to develop their workforce skills, attitudes, and knowledge in volunteerism.
The event featured distinguished leaders in volunteerism advocacy like Mr. Sherwin G. Lozano from Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) - Camiling and Pag-Asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) focal person; Ms. Krista Mae M. Angeles, Administrative Aide from MSDWO - Camiling; and Mr. Daruel A. Naelgas, Vice President of PYAP Camiling Chapter.ย
Meanwhile, United States Peace Corps Response Volunteer Mr. David E. Kalinowski, who is currently assigned at the OSSD, shared his insights and admiration for TAU in conducting volunteerism learning sessions for students. โTAU has been very supportive in creating such activities to strengthen volunteerism at the University and the community,โ he stated.
โI hope we can create new programs and policies in the near future such as certificate programs to bridge volunteerism with professional development opportunities,โ he added.
