Affirming its theme โPagpapanday at Pagyabong: TAUโs Champions forging Paths for an Inclusive and Resilient Future,โ Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) marked another turning point in its almost eight-decade history as it held the second day of its 79th Commencement Exercises at the Gilberto O. Teodoro Multipurpose Center, 6 June.ย
The ceremonies were divided into two sessions: the morning for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Business and Management (CBM), and the afternoon for the College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) and the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Faculty, non-teaching staff, and families gathered in full regalia to culminate the long years of studentsโ pre-professional and personal growth.
Among the opening highlights was the ceremonial entrance of TAUโs education support personnel, acknowledging their vital role in sustaining the institutionโs academic services and student support systems. Immediately following was the delivery of the opening remarks by Dr. Arnold R. Lorenzo, Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPFA), during the morning program, and Dr. Leonell P. Lijauco, Vice President for Planning and Quality Assurance(VPPQA), in the afternoon. Both high-ranking officials underscored the value of social mobility through academic advancement and lauded the graduates for their patience and perseverance in dealing with challenges throughout their journey at the University.
Another key segment of the program was the official presentation of graduates by their respective deans, followed by the conferment of degrees by TAU President, Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson.
Meanwhile, Ms. Aileen Uy-Chan, President and CEO of 1st Megasaver, served as guest speaker for the morning session. Addressing graduates from CBM and CAS, she emphasized the importance of embracing uncertainties and taking bold steps toward achieving their respective goals. โIt takes both sun and rain for a flower to grow. Some achieve success and greatness early while others bloom later,โ she shared.
In the afternoon, Dr. Constante J. Palabrica, Undersecretary for Livestock at the Department of Agriculture (DA), delivered a compelling keynote message. Speaking to graduates of CAF and CVM, he recounted the devastation brought by the African Swine Fever (ASF) and highlighted the resilience of the agriculture sector. โThe Philippines needs leaders; we need builders; we need nation drivers who understand that agriculture is a commitment to nation-building,โ he asserted.
Adding merit to the occasion, Ms. Yolanda F. Juan, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for Administration, led the conferment of civil service eligibility to honor graduates, marking their readiness to enter government service.
The TAUians also expressed their allegiance to their Alma Mater through the Pledge of Loyalty, led by Mr. Arnel J. Ortega Jr., BS Tourism Management graduate, in the morning and Mr. Dominic B. Ferrer, BS Agriculture graduate, in the afternoon. These were followed by the Oath of Membership to the TAU Alumni Association, facilitated by Dr. Edmar N. Franquera, Alumni Association President and TAUโs Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training, formally welcoming the graduates into the Universityโs ever-growing network of alumni.
With the theme of civic leadership, institutional and individual adaptability, and nation-building echoing throughout the ceremonies, the 79th Commencement Exercises mirrored TAUโs mission to produce graduates who are not only competent and committed professionals but also compassionate and global citizens.ย
