Committed to providing students with strategic research dialogue platforms on the United Nationsโ€™ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU)ย  โ€“ College of Engineering and Technology (CET) held its first edition of the Student Research Colloquium 2025 centered on the theme, โ€œEmpowering Sustainable Development through Engineering and Technology Innovationโ€ from 2-3 June.

Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, TAU President, officially welcomed all participants at the TAU Student and Alumni Amphitheater Center and expressed his enthusiasm for the event. โ€œWe are gathered not only to share research ideas but also to spark dialogue; challenge assumptions, and explore how engineering and technology can address pressing challenges such as climate change and clean energy.โ€ Dr. Salunson stated.

He further added, โ€œLet this colloquium be a platform for collaboration, inspiration, and empowerment; one that ignites new ideas, fosters lasting partnerships, and deepens our collective commitment using science and technology for the greater good.โ€

In his opening remarks, Dr. Edmar N. Franquera, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training (VPRET), expressed hope that this collaborative initiative would help address the relevant issues and challenges faced by the engineering and technology sectors. He also encouraged all attendees to engage in meaningful discussions and explore potential avenues for future research collaborations.

Dr. Ruben A. Parazo, CET Dean, formally introduced Dr. Somchoke Reungittnun, Department Chair at Kasetsart University - Thailand, as the keynote speaker of the event. In his introduction, Dr. Parazo highlighted Dr. Reungittnunโ€™s academic background and notable contributions to the field such as the Applied Internet-of-Things (IOT) for Smart Hydroponic Farming Ecosystem (HFE), Smart tag tracking for livestock farming, and others.

The event featured four plenary speakers, namely: Dr. Rolaida Sonza, IT Graduate Program Coordinator at the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), who discussed Digital Technologies for Sustainability; Prof. Intan Sartika Eris Maghfiroh, Lecturer at Universitas Brawijaya (UB) - Indonesia, who focused on Sustainable Information Systems and Green Business Process Management; Prof. Czar Jakiri S. Sarmiento of the National Engineering Center, University of the Philippines (UP), who explained Computational Geodesy and Geospatial AI; and Prof. Imam Mustofa from Universitas Kadiri - Indonesia, who discussed Geospatial Intelligence for Sustainable Development with Data-Driven Decisions.

Through the parallel sessions, student researchers from the programs, Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE), Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), and Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering (GE) presented their research studies at the TAU Agri-Tourism Hostel, Continuing Education Center (CEC), and Farmerโ€™s Training Center (FTC), respectively.

Moreover, student researchers received awards for Best Paper and Best Presenter for each of the parallel sessions on Day 2 of the event held at the TAU-Agrotourism Hostel.

Dr. Joven A. Tolentino, Chair of the Department of Computer Studies, conveyed the message of Dr. Parazo who praised the entire TAU administration, CET Faculty members, the Parent and Faculty Association (PFA), students, and student organizations for their contributions to the success of the event.

โ€œIt is a success. The College of Engineering and Technology has once again demonstrated unity. Through this shared purpose, nothing is impossible to accomplish. More than that, the event fostered competence, resilience, and expertise of our students,โ€ Dr. Tolentino stressed.
