Driven by their goal to empower academic staff through exposure to various agricultural innovations and sustainability practices, representatives from the College of Agriculture (CoAg) of Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) โ€“ Dingle Campus conducted their Field Immersion and Project Exposure at the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) on 9-11 June.

Dr. Marianne P. Villaruel, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA), welcomed the ISUFST delegates spearheaded by Dr. Noli L. Gerona, Dean of CoAg, alongside nine faculty members.

Meanwhile, ISUFST officials led by its University President Dr. Nordy D. Siason, along with Dr. Joan M. Belga, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Johny B. Dolor, Vice President for Administration and Finance; and Dr. Janette G. Bayona, Director for Advancement and Linkages, joined the program virtually.

On behalf of TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson, Dr. Leonel P. Lijauco, Vice President for Planning and Quality Assurance (VPPQA), extended his warm appreciation and delivered a message of gratitude to ISUFST for choosing TAU as a venue to explore strategic opportunities in agriculture. Also present during the program was Dr. Edmar N. Franquera, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training (VPRET).

On the other hand, Dr. Siasonโ€™s message stressed ISUFSTโ€™s commitment to academic pursuit. โ€œThis endeavour marks another meaningful step in our shared pursuit of academic excellence, innovation, and sustainable development. ISUFST not only observed best practices in agriculture and allied sciences but also engaged deeply with a diverse reality that shaped agricultural development and sustainability,โ€ he emphasized as delivered by Dr. Gerona.

The program also featured sharing of best practices between TAU and ISUFST on extension initiatives in local communities, strategies of OJT coordinators, research highlights aligned with rural development, and practices in preparation for the Agricultural Licensure Examination (ALE).

Moreover, ISUFST gained broader insights into TAU-implemented projects through collaborative discussions and presentations on crop production, income-generating project (IGP) of the College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF), the Rootcrops Research and Training Center, the Food Processing Center, the Bambusetum, the TAU SMART Agriculture Center, and the Engineered Bamboo Project, followed by a tour of TAUโ€™s research laboratories and facilities inside the University and in the Calao Forest Reserve.

Through this initiative, both TAU and ISUFST have strategically strengthened their commitment to advancing their internationalization roadmap and expanding research and development efforts.
