Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) strengthened its institutional preparedness for emergencies and planned events through the conduct of the Gender-Responsive Radio Antenna and Radio Communication Training for Disaster Response and Planned Events at the TAU-Bamboo Training Center on October 8, 2026. Initiated by the Universityโs Gender and Development (GAD) Office and National Service Training Program (NSTP) Office, the training underscores the importance of effective communication in ensuring timely coordination, informed response, and the protection of lives during emergencies.
University President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson emphasizes that preparedness is a shared responsibility that requires every member of the University community to be equipped and ready to respond. โSa bawat hamon at sakuna, ang kahandaan ay hindi lamang responsibilidad ng iilan; ito ay pananagutan nating lahat. And today's training is an important investment in that shared responsibility. This training reminds us of one fundamental truth: in times of emergency, communication can save lives,โ Dr. Salunson says, underscoring communication as more than a technical capability but a critical lifeline in times of crisis.
The training advances TAUโs commitment to gender-responsive and inclusive disaster preparedness by equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills in radio antennas and radio communication. Such capacity becomes particularly vital when emergencies disrupt conventional communication channels, requiring responders to establish reliable lines of communication for coordination, information dissemination, and immediate action.
The University recognizes the efforts of the GAD Office under the directorship of Dr. Ma. Theresa B. Nardo and the NSTP Office led by Director Dr. Joven D. Valdez for initiating the capacity-building activity and strengthening disaster preparedness as an institutional responsibility. Serving as resource speaker, Captain John Benzon Q. Taclas, Commanding Officer of the Headquarters Company of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion, Philippine Army, shares his expertise and practical insights on radio communication and its application in disaster response and planned events.
Through the initiative, TAU reinforces its commitment to building a prepared, responsive, and resilient university community, recognizing that effective disaster response begins with people who are equipped to communicate and act when it matters most. As emphasized by Dr. Salunson, the training serves as an investment in a shared responsibility, one that can make communication a decisive factor in saving lives.
