Promoting bamboo as a sustainable material for arts and livelihood, the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) proved its competence through local craftsmanship and bagged multiple awards during the 2025 Kauayan Arts and Crafts Contest held from 27 to 29 October at the Roof Deck, Tarlac Capitol Center Building, San Roque, Tarlac City.

Initiated by the Provincial Government of Tarlac (PGT) in collaboration with Tarlac Provincial Bamboo Industry Development Council (TPBIDC), and through the management of Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office (PCEDO), the contest not only preserves cultural artistry but also positions bamboo as a modern economic driver for sustainable development.

During the event, bamboo artisans, students, and entrepreneurs from various municipalities in Tarlac and Region III compete in three categories: Food, Non-Food Handcrafted, and Non-Food Industrial. Special awards were also given, such as Governorโ€™s Choice, PCEDOโ€™s Choice, Most Innovative, Excellence in Craftsmanship, Best in Market-Ready Product, Tatak-Tarlac, and Culinary Creativity.

In the Food Category, Ms. Brenda Lee Ubaldo secured second place with her Bamboo Pastil. At the same time, Mr. Noel E. Untalan received the Tarlac Provincial Bamboo Industry Development Council (TPBIDC) Award for his Bamboo Gourmet. Meanwhile, in the Non-Food Handcrafted Category, Mr. Adonnes G. Pastor and Mr. Fricks Jerlwin Jeff P. Gattoc clinched first place, and Ms. Ropemi Alboro, together with Ms. Laarnie May Tangonan, earned second place for their handcrafted entries.

In the Non-Food Category, Mr. Kristoff John F. Santiago won second place with his Croc Coin Bank, Ms. Leonora Vergara received third place for her artwork Araw, Buwan, at Bituin, and Mr. Jostolito M. Ferrer secured fourth place with his Ilaw ng Karagatan (Lamp Shade). In addition, Ms. Ropemi Alboro also bagged the first place for her Bamboo Lanyard and second place for her Bamboo Hook Organizer in the Non-Food (Handcrafted) Category.

TAUians also captivated the judges and reaped multiple recognitions. The distinctions are as follows: Governorโ€™s Choice Award (Industrial) to Mr. Noli C. Cayanga for his Bamboo Keyboard; PCEDOโ€™s Choice Award to Mr. Nick O. Corpuz for his Bamboo Pitcher; TPBIDCโ€™s Choice Award to Mr. Noel E. Untalan for his Bamboo Gourmet; and the Most Innovative Use of Bamboo Award to Mr. Noli C. Cayanga for his Bamboo Guitar.

Said event not only preserves cultural artistry but also positions bamboo as a modern economic driver for sustainable development.

With full pride in support of TAU students and non-teaching staff who won multiple awards during the competition, TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson commended the awardees for exemplifying excellence and promoting sustainability through their craft.

โ€œBamboo, known as the green gold, reflects how TAU continues to weave not only artistry but also sustainability into its endeavors. Through your creative excellence, you bring honor to our University while advancing innovation and sustainable practices in the local creative industry,โ€ Dr. Salunson remarked.
