The Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) - College of Education (CEd) welcomed 25 pioneering first-year students of the newly offered Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science (BSESS) program at the start of the semester, 11 August.

According to the Admission and Registration Services (ARS) Office, despite the strong interest from aspiring enrollees, only a select few qualified, as admission standards were set at a high level to ensure that those accepted demonstrate the academic capability consistent with CEd’s rigorous entrance requirements.

Among the trailblazing members of this initial BSESS batch are Mr. Juls Ivann J. Limayo and Ms. Christine DT. Laureta, both from Camiling, who envision themselves as a future fitness coach and a Physical Education (PE) teacher, respectively.Β

This orientation will outline your roles, responsibilities, and the programs’ objectives for AY 2025-2026. Your attendance is mandatory as it marks the official commencement of your NSTP journey and service commitment to the community. Mr. Limayo, who aspires to join the University’s long jump team, shared that he chose BSESS as a path to inspire people and his peers. β€œIt’s also a great opportunity for those like me who love sports and value physical and mental health. I also want to learn and share more skills to improve myself and become more physically fit,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Laureta, who hopes to pursue women’s basketball at TAU, expressed her enthusiasm for the journey ahead with her classmates: β€œI know we’re still getting familiar with this course, but I’m hyped to grow and learn with all of you. We’re in this together, diving into sports science, leveling up our game, and mastering new techniques.”

BS ESS Department Chairperson Ms. Rizafel B. Salcedo conveyed the message of CEd Dean Dr. Claire Anne A. Olivares, reminding the students that the entire CEd community stands as their ally. β€œA lot of opportunities are waiting for you,” Ms. Salcedo emphasized, encouraging them to invest effort in their studies and prepare for a future as competent, service-oriented professionals.

As future graduates of Batch 2029, BSESS students will undertake core courses such as Prevention and Management of Exercise/Sports Injuries, Biomechanics, Coaching Theory and Practice in Exercise/Sports, Applied Research in Exercise and Sports, and Internship. These specialized disciplines are designed to equip them with advanced expertise in sports science and immersive, real-world field experience.
