In a symbolic and profoundly inspiring demonstration of workplace wellness, two non-teaching staff emerged as the standout champions of the "Biggest Loser Challenge Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) Edition." The winners were recognized during the 125th Civil Service Anniversary Fellowship Dinner at the Gilberto O. Teodoro Multipurpose Center on 30 September.
Ms. May Q. Parayno from the Quality Assurance (QA) Office secured the female category title with an impressive 11.221% weight loss, while Mr. John Michael S. Verano, hailing from the Planning Development Office (PDO), dominated the male category with a remarkable 18.961% weight reduction, both proving that dedication to health and personal growth thrives in every role, making the entire University community stronger.
The champions shared powerful insights from their transformative journeys. Ms. Parayno emphasized sustainable approaches, stating, "through simple habits like daily morning walks and self-discipline in food, I proved that with consistency and determination, change is possible." She highlighted that the true victory extended beyond numbers to lasting lifestyle changes and improved well-being.
Meanwhile, Mr. Verrano reflected on the mental strength required, sharing, "I learned that mistakes do not erase progress, as long as I rise and continue." His remarkable 20.8-kilogram journey taught him that "weight loss is not only about the body, it is about the mind, the heart, and the will."ย
The ceremony also honored other outstanding participants across both categories. In the female division, Ms. Ronnelie V. De Guzman (11.199%) and Ms. Karyl Imee A. Fernandez (10.714%) secured major awards, while consolation prizes went to Ms. Eunice Joy M. Lorenzo (9.009%), Ms. Regine B. Valentin (8.65%), and Ms. Kristine Rose O. De Vera (8.405%).ย
In the male category, TAU recognized Mr. Nelmar A. Mallari (12.044%) and Mr. April Christian L. De Leon (11.416%) with major awards, while Mr. Justin S. Rosales (10.401%), Mr. Ernald T. Bautista (10.253%), and Mr. Alvin M. Labisa (9.976%) received consolation prizes.
TAU President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson emphasized that the success of employees reinforces the institution's commitment to inclusive wellness programs. According to him, the achievements showcase how health consciousness and discipline are values shared equally across all University personnel, regardless of their specific roles.
โThis program is part of our commitment to promoting SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. We will continue to ensure that our employees remain effective and productive public servants by ensuring that they have access to initiatives that advance healthy, sustainable, and holistically balanced lifestyles," Dr. Salunson added.
The competition, a flagship initiative by the TAU Medical and Dental Unit, recognized the exceptional dedication of these individuals by awarding cash prizes and certificates to all winners. This tangible recognition not only celebrates their impressive physical transformations but also reinforces the University's institutional support for its employees' wellness journeys.
