Having ranked as 93rd among the Global Top 400 of the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2025 Rankings, the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) proudly participated in the 2025 WURI Global Conference, hosted by Tongmyong University (TU) in Busan, South Korea onย 24-26 September 2025.
TAUโs delegation who received the recognition plaques consisted of Dr. Arnold R. Lorenzo, Vice President for Finance and Administration; Dr. Marianne P. Villaruel, Director for External Linkages and International Affairs; and Dr. Sheila R. Lingaya, Chief for International Mobility and Assistant Director for ELIA.ย
The event gathered higher education leaders, scholars, and innovators from across the world to exchange best practices and showcase groundbreaking initiatives that redefine the role of universities in addressing global challenges.

The University also showcased its initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas of sustainability, innovation, and mobility.
During the Presidentsโ Sessions where successful cases were presented by higher education institutionsโ presidents and their representatives, Dr. Lorenzo served as moderator for the Category A3 or Industrial Application. He also presented in the same session TAUโs entry, โSMART Agriculture: Propelling Green Revolution in the 21st Centuryโ which ranked 10th in said category in the WURI Ranking 2025. Said project was led by Dr. Amy Lizbeth Rico, faculty of the College of Engineering and Technology (CET) and Manager of the TAU SMART Agriculture Center.ย
Dr. Rico is also the lead for the project โSatellite Imagery Crop Monitoring and Forecasting System for Agriculture and Technologyโ which also ranked 18th in A7 or the Technology Development and Application category. Said project was also presented as a successful case from the University as presented by Dr. Lingaya during the Leaders and Experts Sessions of the conference.ย
Meanwhile, Dr. Marianne P. Villaruel also presented TAUโs โBamboo: From Poor Manโs Timber to Green Goldโ case in category A4 or the Entrepreneurial Spirit with which said case ranked 13th place among the top 100 cases. The eBamboo is one of the flagship centers of the TAU currently headed by Mr. Julius Basilio.

The WURI Global Conference 2025 also featured the second World University Network of Innovation for three categories of participants. The WUNI-Presidents joined by Dr. Lorenzo, WUNI-Leaders joined by Dr. Villaruel and WUNI Experts joined by Dr. Lingaya. Each session of said networks also included election of members of Board of Directors, Chairs and Executive Officers.ย ย
Also, TAU representatives joined discussions on innovative approaches in education, research, and community engagement, emphasizing its commitment to fostering inclusive development and international collaboration.ย

TAU was also given the opportunity to seal a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the host university, Tongmyong University, led by its President, Dr. Sang Chun Lee.ย The partnership agreement was sealed on 25 September 2025 with Dr. Lorenzo representing TAU President, Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson.
Said partnership paves way for future diverse international exchange and cooperation such as exchange of students focused on cultural exchange programs, summer and/or winter courses, etc.; exchange of faculty and staff; development of internship program or field training programmes in both Philippines and South Korea; development of joint program for academic and RISE Project; and development of language education and training programmes.ย

Back at TAU, while receiving the recognition plaques and signing his part on the MOU, Dr. Salunson expressed, โThe Tarlac Agricultural University believes we have a great chance to share our own creative practices, gain knowledge from peers around the world, and forge new alliances that will further higher education by attending the WURI Global Conference.ย The University's representation at the WURI Global Conference 2025 demonstrates our goal of developing into a globally active organization that equips communities and students to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century.โ
Additionally, Dr. Rico and Mr. Jerome L. Duque, Information Officer III of the Information Unit, were also awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation by WURI for their tremendous effort in creating an innovative program for WURI 2025.
As such, TAU reaffirms its position as a proactive participant in international discussions on education reform by attending the 2025 WURI Global Conference and commits to prepare for the next round of WURI Rankings.
