During the grand Convocation for Tarlac Agricultural University’s (TAU) 80th Founding Anniversary on 18 December, University President Dr. Silverio Ramon DC. Salunson framed TAU’s eight decades as a symbolic call to advance the institution’s worldwide influence while renewing commitment to its core mission. The event, held at the Gilberto O. Teodoro Multipurpose Center, centered on the anniversary motto, “80 Years of Excellence: Cultivating Innovation, Sustainability, and Global Leadership,” drawing together the TAU community and distinguished guests in a shared vision for the future.

Representation marked the day from its start, with the planting of a native oak as a living “Legacy Tree”, an act embodying growth, resilience, and TAU’s pledge to environmental stewardship.

In his keynote address, President Salunson urged the academic community to reflect on its journey with gratitude and move forward with a clear purpose. “This occasion invites us to look back with gratitude and forward with purpose,” he stated, challenging TAUians to consider “what we have become and what we choose to pursue.” He highlighted that, over generations, the University has produced not only farmers and educators but also innovators, entrepreneurs, scientists, and leaders who drive progress locally and abroad.

Dr. Salunson further emphasized that TAU’s legacy is built on continual evolution, the ability to turn constraints into opportunities, and leading with humility and resolve. “Our history is defined not merely by longevity,” he noted, “but by our persistent drive to innovate, intensify our efforts, and sustain progress despite challenges.”

Messages from representatives of national agencies and international partners echoed this sentiment, recognizing TAU’s pivotal role in shaping the future of Philippine agriculture and education while acknowledging its growing footprint on the global stage.

The convocation was followed by interactive engagements across campus, including the Harvest Festival and a tour of the Smart Agriculture Center, where newly inaugurated facilities demonstrated TAU’s commitment to cutting-edge agri-technology and practical innovation.

By uniting tradition with a forward-focused agenda, the 80th Anniversary Convocation not only celebrated TAU’s past but also solidified its path ahead, a future guided by innovation, sustainability, and an expanded role as a global leader in agro-industrial education and development.
