Marking the start of a four-day gathering anchored on the theme โ€œAdvancing Interdisciplinary Research for Sustainable and Inclusive Development,โ€ the Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) led by the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) formally opened the International Interdisciplinary Research and Development Conference in Social Science (IIRDCSS) on 25 November at the TAU Alumni and Student Center Amphitheater.ย

Gracing the opening ceremony are key university officials led by Dr. Edmar N. Franquera, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training (VPRET); Dr. Sonny DC. Torres, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (VPASA); and Ms. Yolanda F. Juan, Chief Administrative Officer for Administration (CAO-Admin), who collectively emphasized the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration in shaping sustainable solutions for todayโ€™s complex social issues. In their messages, the officials highlight TAUโ€™s commitment to fostering research-driven dialogues and strengthening partnerships that cut across sectors, disciplines, and borders.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sherwin S. Alar, CAS Dean, also delivered his message and emphasized the importance of IIRDCSS in strengthening collaborative research networks that advance sustainable and inclusive development across local and global contexts.

โ€œThis conference is not only an academic gathering but also a celebration of community and intercultural exchange,โ€ he stated.

โ€œThese experiences allow us to appreciate the cultural richness of our region, understand local histories, and observe how communities navigate the challenges of development, resilience, and identity. Interactions beyond the conference halls often lead to collaborations that become instrumental in shaping future research and extension initiatives,โ€ he added.

This yearโ€™s conference brings together 38 local and international partners who are invited to present their research papers and participate in educational tours. Moreover, a signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) will also be conducted in the following days.
