A herd of twelve goats, comprising one Boer, one Anglo-Nubian, and ten native breeds, has arrived at Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU), 5 November, as the centerpiece of a new research initiative funded by the National Livestock Program (NLP).Β

Helmed by the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), the program, led by Dr. Allan Jeffrey E. Francia, Chief of the Animal Breeding and Artificial Insemination (ABAI) Center, aims to rapidly enhance local livestock quality by employing advanced reproductive technologies, such as Multiple Ovulation and Embryo Transfer (MOET).Β

By harvesting and implanting embryos from the high-value donor goats into the native does, the Center can accelerate genetic improvement, potentially leading to more productive animals for local farmers and boosting the sustainability and profitability of the region's goat industry.
