TAU eyes boosting transnational, advanced education
“Were glad to host TAU. You are the third SUC we welcomed. We consider this as part of our role as a national unibersity”. - Dr. Jose V. Camacho Jr.
To accelerate Tarlac Agricultural University’s (TAU) faculty and staff development and graduate school programs, Dr. Max P. Guillermo, TAU President, and several members of the TAU delegation, participated in a bilateral dialogue with Dr. Jose V. Camacho Jr., UPLB Chancellor, as part of the TAU’s Partnership Development and Planning Workshop on August 4.
In the said meeting, Dr. Guillermo and Dr. Camacho exchanged views on future-proof paradigms and systems thinking. The two leaders were joined by Dr. Christine N. Ferrer, Director of External Linkages and International Affairs and Graduate Programs Coordinator; Ms. Gracelle P. Hilario, Board Secretary and University Secretary; and Mrs. Luningning P. Guillermo, In-Charge of Agritourism Hostel, Bamboo Training Center, and Continuing Education Center.
According to Dr. Camacho, UPLB is using three models in its instructional delivery strategy namely, pure online, blended learning, and hybrid. As TAU opens its doors to students for the first semester, it plans to utilize the blended learning modality in undergraduate classes and in the graduate program.
Dr. Camacho also presented UPLB’s flagship initiatives such as AGORA or Accelerating Growth Through One Research and Extension in Action which seeks to integrate sustainability and promote development and innovation in its niche programs and briefed the TAU officials about the policies and groundwork of the Philippines Satellite Campus of the Nagoya University, a Japanese national research university.
Part of the benchmarking activities is a visit to the Mt. Makiling Trail and Botanical Gardens and the Philippine High School for the Arts.
After the campus tour, the TAU delegation also had an opportunity to engage with the following officials from UPLB: Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Asst. Prof Roselle V. Collado, Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Dr. Ronilo Jose D. Flores, Graduate School International Relations Officer and Assoc. Dean; Asst. Prof. John Mervin L. Embate, Director of UPLB Learning Resource Center; and Dr. Greg T. Pawilen, Director of Office for Institutional Development in Higher Education.
